Ana Colchero was born in Mexico City; her parents were refugees of the Spanish Civil War who fled there thanks to General Lázaro Cárdenas and the country of Mexico.

Her father, a doctor, founded a theatre company in which she participated throughout her childhood and adolescence. She attended an American primary school and for secondary school went to Colegio Madrid, an academy for exiled Spaniards, where her love for literature and science was born. She debated whether to become a writer or to study social and economic movements; she decided to pursue her degree in Economics from the Universidad Autónoma de México, concentrating in the study of social, historical, and cultural movements.

After working for a time as an economist, she later chose to reclaim her love for acting that she had inherited from her father and participated in theatre works such as La Señorita Julia by Strindberg and La maestra milagrosa by Arthur Pennn; en films such as Rosa de dos aromas by Emilio Carballido, and Acosada by Marcela Fernández; and in the television series Corazón salvaje, Alondra and Isabella.

In 2000 she decided to leave acting to dedicate her life to literature, which she finally achieved in 2006 with the publication of her first novel Entre dos fuegos. In 2004 she undertook an ambitious project: create a futuristic novel inspired by the perplexing world of the new century and the development of 19th century historic events. This narrative, Los hijos del tiempo, is the work that La Esfera de los Libros will publish in 2012, year in which these disturbing events have already manifest themselves into our reality and humanity must now confront them.
